Impressions by Annuj – Interview with TOinitiative.ca

Hello friends!

Getting any sort of international acclaim is of course flattering, but we are always just as excited when local agencies approach us. Yesterday, an interview with Annuj and TOinitiative.ca was posted online. TOinitiative.ca is a community-based initiative group highlighting Toronto’s Dreamers. And dream we do…

Anu & Goby – Reception – London, England

Hey guys,

We’re back today with Anu and Goby for their reception. This was held at a beautiful estate in Hertfordshire called De Vere Hunton Park.

Anu wore a beautiful net saree and a gorgeous designer kundan set. We took some great couple photos around the estate during cocktail hour as the guests were entertained by a magician and were served scrumptious appetizers made by Freshco. The reception was filled with speeches – some that made us laugh (Pratik), some that made us cry (Jenni – even reducing the groom himself to tears), and some that made us awwwwww (Goby!).

Speaking of Goby’s speech – I don’t think we’ve ever received a more ringing endorsement in a speech. Most clients tend to say thank you to us during their final speech at their reception and we are so grateful for the fact that they are so appreciative of our work. Goby took it yet another step further. After all was said and done in his speech, he left the very last thank you for us! It was something like this “And I have to thank Annuj & Tanya. They came here from Canada as our photographers, but they are not only our photographers here, they are our guest, our family. They have been amazing to us this whole time and I am so glad we went with them.”

AND if that wasn’t enough, at the very end of the night, Goby wanted to get a shot of himself and all of his mates with some very fine cigars. As we are setting up for the shot, Goby walks out of the shot, faces the crowd of his friends and says a little something: “LISTEN! ALL OF YOU SHUT UP! LET ME TELL YOU RIGHT NOW… IF YOU DON’T GET ANNUJ & TANYA TO COME TO PHOTOGRAPH YOUR WEDDING, YOUR MARRIAGE WILL BE CURSED FOR LIFE AND I WILL NOT BE COMING TO THE WEDDING!” – a very sweet and unbelievably hilarious vote of confidence!

Hope you enjoy these shots!

Amanda & Adam – Toronto Catholic Wedding

Hey all,

We’re here today with Adam and Amanda’s wedding day. One thing that stood out for us was how there was no hustle and bustle, no rush rush rush. Everything happened at a great pace and everyone was calm. Everyone made it on time, the groom is handsome, the bride is beautiful, the priest was hilarious, and it was a lovely ceremony.

The down side was that it was raining. Hard. So we had to skip the beautiful outdoor location that they got a permit for and head over to Mississauga Convention Centre early for their bridal party photos. Which really wasn’t a problem – with the right eye almost everything can become a backdrop. 🙂

I (Tanya) was shooting with Adam in the morning and he is nothing but a gentleman. From constant “thank yous” and “pleases”, to asking me to sit down and have breakfast with him and his grandparents to even turning down the air conditioning in the hotel room before he came down for breakfast (because he “knew a ‘lady’ was going to be in the room soon and girls always seem to be cold”), he proved that what they say is true – a small town boy (from Penetanguishene, Ontario) knows how to treat a lady. And that was the consensus at the reception. Nothing but high praises from family, friends, and from Amanda herself for how lucky she was to find someone who always treats her right and knows exactly what to say. Adam’s speech showed the world that though Amanda is an independent, determined, successful young woman, she is also the perfect blend of city and town, who is not afraid to go on an adventure and get dirty. A match made in Heaven!

Nirojan & Mituna – Toronto Hindu Wedding

Hey guys!

We’re here today with Mituna and Nirojan’s wedding. Their wedding was filled with happiness, laughter and cheer – and pretty much went off without a hitch! A fantastic job was done by Shaminy at GlamBeauty for Mituna’s make up and hair. Shaminy was also there to change Mituna’s look for the second half of the wedding – the civil ceremony. Mituna was decked out in a beautiful and bright yellow saree with red and black embellishments. A lovely day with a great couple! Hope you enjoy these photos.

Be back soon!

Shiraine & Raymond – Toronto Engagement Shoot

Hey all!
We’re here today with Shiraine and Raymond’s engagement shoot!  Starting off at Edwards Gardens, it was evident that love was in the air!  They frolicked through the forest, kissed atop of a waterfall, and read to each other!  (Side note: Forgetting to bring her own novel, Shiraine borrowed my current book at the time for these shots – “A Dog’s Purpose” is a must read!)
After the park we headed over to the Bluffs for some waterfront shots. We lucked out in that while we were shooting at the docks, a boat owner saw us and asked if we wanted to take a few shots at his boat. Yes, please! Hope you enjoy some shots from their engagement shoot!
Can’t wait to post their wedding photos!  If you enjoyed these photos make sure to check back into our Facebook Fan Page for more!  “LIKE” our page to stay updated with our work!

Amutha & Colin – Alice in Wonderland Themed Engagement Shoot

Hey WordPress World!
Today we’re here with a creative treat! Amutha and Colin are a fun and unique couple who wanted a themed shoot that involved colour, props and a lot of dress up. What better theme than Alice in Wonderland?! I created their look book with what I thought was a wish list because it was so exhaustive – but to my delightful surprise, Amutha and Colin managed to grab literally every item on my list!  They shared that both of their families were hoarders and with a quick trip to the dollar store (something I ALWAYS recommend as a first resort – you’d be surprised what you can find there!), they were set!
Since the Alice in Wonderland theme has been done before, I thought we could add a cultural twist and suggested to Amutha that she wear a saree or an anarkalli (keeping in mind that it would have to be, of course, the Alice baby blue) – she brought both! She was beautified by Nizani of Crown Beauty, who did a PERFECT job with Amutha’s look. Pairing blue smokey eyes with baby pink lips was the perfect cute-yet-alluring look I was looking for. You can check out more of this talented, young artist on her Facebook Fan Page here!
With the help of some great friends and family, we were able to set up their stage on one of the hottest days of the year. Their table was littered with antique clocks, flowers, tea sets (including the teacup and saucer of Amutha’s late grandmother – so touching!), hardcover books, and so much more!  They also found a pocket watch (actually two!) for the shoot which paired beautifully with our very own white rabbit!  Special thanks to Nizani for allowing us to use Thumper (as we had dubbed him) for the shoot – he was on his absolute best behavior for the full duration. 🙂
From high tea to croquet with flamingos to cards and roses and so much more wackiness, Amutha and Colin proved to be a fun and free couple. We hope you enjoy some of our favourites.

Mahdi & Janice – High Park Engagement Shoot

Hey guys,
Today we’ve got Mahdi and Janice. We met Mahdi a few years ago through my (Tanya’s) brother and he’s such a great guy! How appropriate that he found himself a great girl!  We started off their engagement shoot at High Park and worked our way to a Pickering beach.  Some swans, a stalled car, and some pizza later, we’ve ended up with some very sweet shots.

Purvee & Rajbir – Toronto Hindu Wedding

Hey guys!

When they came to us, we were already booked for the date of Purvee and Rajbir’s reception. Though they were disappointed, they booked with us anyways as they said their weddings were the most important part and they wanted us to cover that. So today, we are back with the grande finale for our coverage of Purvee and Rajbir’s wedding!

Their Hindu ceremony took place at Mirage Banquet Hall. Decked out in a beautiful red and white designer lehengha, Purvee had the spotlight for sure.

They had a beautiful ceremony with a great Pundit (Hindu priest) who made it a point to explain the reasons why everything was being done. Hindu ceremonies are always done in Sanskrit, an ancient language which much like Latin is not used very much anymore for daily conversation. So one will find that at many Hindu weddings, many members of the audience will not be paying attention/ will be talking simply out of boredom because they can’t understand the priest as he is speaking an age-old language. This has lead to a trend towards getting the priest to translate chants or explain the significance of a particular ritual. After taking seven steps around the sacred fire, Purvee and Rajbir were wed!

This left only one part remaining: Rajbir’s shoes. After a lengthy negotiations process between the bridesmaids and the groomsmen, a price was agreed upon and our groom finally got his soles back.

Enjoy some of our faves.

Purvee and Rajbir, you are a beautiful couple and we wish you nothing but the best!

Niroshan & Renetha – Reception, Toronto

Hello blog world!

So it’s time for another blog post.  This time it’s a wrap up of Niroshan and Renee’s story with their wedding reception.

Before their reception we shot at the Hilton Suites in Markham.  I’ve always driven by this hotel and loved how the glass windows go up all the way to the top of the building front of the building as the actual building is a U shape with the glass connect both ends.

Niroshan and Renee are always fun to work with and they always do whatever we ask them to and this time we had them jump on the bed fully dressed and the photos really showed how much of a fun couple they are.  Their reception was at Scarborough Convention Centre and included a fun filled reception with an introduction dance, speeches, and a hilarious reenactment by their friends of their first meet (along with ACTUAL video footage of that first time)!   How sweet and thoughtful is that?!

Here are some of our favourites from their day!

We got home around 2:30am that night and packed our luggage because we had a 10am flight to Jamaica the next day!

As the first couple who booked us for their wedding, Niroshan and Renetha will always have a special place in our hearts.  They had faith and confidence in us and we’ll never forget that.  We are so glad with how quickly they switched from clients to friends – such an easy going, amazing couple.  We had fun shooting them from beginning to end and hope to build many more relationships with clients like we have with them.

Wishing them nothing but the absolute best that this world can offer,

Annuj & Tanya
