Janice & Mahdi – Catholic Wedding & Reception – Toronto, Canada

Hello folks!

We’re here today with Janice and Mahdi. Their wedding festivities started at Pickering Village with a first look! I remember that Mahdi’s hands were shaking as he awaited Janice’s tap on his shoulder. She tapped, he turned, she smiled, he cried. It was a beautiful reveal. After some bridal party portraits we headed off to their wedding. The wedding was held at the church Janice has gone to since she was a little girl, so there was a big sentimental attachment. It was even noted by the priest as he marveled at how she’s grown into a beautiful bride.

Their first dance starting with a traditional slow song but ending with the very grooooovy Let’s Get It On by Marvin Gaye drew in the Ooooooohs from the audience as if it were a grade seven classroom! From there it was some hilarious speeches that were basically the bride and especially the groom getting torn from head to toe by their nearest and dearest (you will see their hilarious expressions when listening to their speeches). But Mahdi and Janice were just as good when it came to their turn to speak – it was a great night! Hope you enjoy a few moments!

Shiraine & Raymond – Buddhist Wedding & Reception – Toronto, Canada

Hi folks!

Here is the follow up to Shiraine & Raymond’s Hindu Ceremony. Their Buddhist ceremony was the following Sunday. We started off the day with a bridal party photoshoot at Guildwood Park. But just before that we did a quick first look outside of their hotel. As you can see, Raymond can truly appreciate how beautiful Shiraine looked that day. After the bridal party shoot was completed Shiraine had left to the salon to get re-dolled up for her Buddhist wedding. Adorned in a stunning white and gold dye cut saree, Shiraine walked down the aisle on traditional Sinhalese fashion accompanied by dancers and drummers. The ceremony is a very familial event including much involvement from the parents and dropping betel leaves to honour past ancestors. Directly following the Buddhist ceremony was a cocktail hour for the guests and then the reception. Ray and Shiraine entered with their bridal party and right into a choreographed number! With some loving words, good food, and non-stop dancing. Everyone was in for a good night!

Hope you enjoy some of our faves 🙂

Raymond & Shiraine – West Indian Hindu Wedding – Toronto, Canada

Hello there friends!

We’re here today with one of a two part series with Shiraine and Raymond. It seems that we at Impressions by Annuj tend to attract a lot of mixed couples towards us. Raymond is from Guyana and is Hindu while Shiraine is from Sri Lanka and is from a Buddhist descent. We were very excited when they approached us for both their Hindu and Buddhist weddings along with their reception.

Their Hindu wedding was on a Friday evening and was filled with family, friends, and cheer. As Shiraine was getting herself beautified with her bridesmaids, I (Tanya) was at Raymond’s house. As per usual “brown standard time”, things were off to a bit of a delayed start but Raymond was nothing short of the perfect host. Whether it was making sure I was okay, to entertaining his boys or saying “hi” to every individual who entered the property, it seemed as though his only prerogative on his wedding day was to make sure that everyone was welcomed and had a good time.

It is no hidden secret that Shiraine is a beauty. Donned in a beautiful red lehengha, she stole the show. From the welcoming Bharat with the tussa to walking around the fire, they had a beautiful wedding day.

Mathan & Nirossa – Hindu Wedding – Toronto, Canada

Hello friends!

We’re here today with the beautiful and emotional wedding of Mathan and Nirossa.  I think with Mathan and Nirossa, it’s hard to not be filled with emotion – whether it is the happiness of the celebration, the bittersweet sadness that Nirossa will be moving from her native Germany to Canada, or the pure love they have for each other… they are a passionate pair.

The got married on a stellar day in the beautiful Swaminarayan Temple (BAPS Temple) in Etobicoke.  Surrounded by their nearest and dearest, they were united through a traditional Brahmin ceremony.  One of the best weddings we shot that day because they are such a wonderful pair.  Down-to-earth, calm, happy, and kind – these are the clients we live to photograph.  It also doesn’t hurt that they are a hot pair as well!  🙂  We’re sure that Kowsi from Beauty Creation had no problems dolling up Nirossa!

From Mathan majestically awaiting his bride, to Nirossa’s tears as she is greeted by her father, to laughter with the groomsmen, to their saree-flying shot at the end – this is one of our favourite weddings to date.  Enjoy 🙂

Colin & Amutha – Tea Ceremony & Reception

We’re here today with Colin & Amutha’s wedding reception. In true fusion form, this mixed raced couple started off their day with a Sri Lankan Hindu wedding and followed it up with a traditional Chinese tea ceremony and reception. The tea ceremony was filled with thoughtful quotations, loving wishes, jokes, and of course, tea!

Amutha had a day full of outfit changes. From starting her day in her manavara saree, to tying the knot in her koorai saree, then changing into her traditional Chinese dress (for the tea ceremony), to a white princess wedding dress, then back into her Chinese attire (at the reception), and finally into a beautiful teal stonework saree. That is a LOT of changing for one girl over approximately sixteen hours – but she pulled it off.

Their reception was a Disney themed affair. From Amutha’s princess gown, to their Alice in Wonderland themed shoot, to their happy endings cake, to Beauty and the Beast centrepieces and so much more! The ten course meal failed not as everyone was stuffed by course five! A big highlight of the night was their concept video made by Atrium Pictures. A hilarious yet touching mini-film, Amutha and Colin showcase their story of how they had met in the office and went from friends to so much more. You can check it out here on YouTube.

Hope you enjoy some snaps from the second half of their wedding day!

Anu & Goby – Reception – London, England

Hey guys,

We’re back today with Anu and Goby for their reception. This was held at a beautiful estate in Hertfordshire called De Vere Hunton Park.

Anu wore a beautiful net saree and a gorgeous designer kundan set. We took some great couple photos around the estate during cocktail hour as the guests were entertained by a magician and were served scrumptious appetizers made by Freshco. The reception was filled with speeches – some that made us laugh (Pratik), some that made us cry (Jenni – even reducing the groom himself to tears), and some that made us awwwwww (Goby!).

Speaking of Goby’s speech – I don’t think we’ve ever received a more ringing endorsement in a speech. Most clients tend to say thank you to us during their final speech at their reception and we are so grateful for the fact that they are so appreciative of our work. Goby took it yet another step further. After all was said and done in his speech, he left the very last thank you for us! It was something like this “And I have to thank Annuj & Tanya. They came here from Canada as our photographers, but they are not only our photographers here, they are our guest, our family. They have been amazing to us this whole time and I am so glad we went with them.”

AND if that wasn’t enough, at the very end of the night, Goby wanted to get a shot of himself and all of his mates with some very fine cigars. As we are setting up for the shot, Goby walks out of the shot, faces the crowd of his friends and says a little something: “LISTEN! ALL OF YOU SHUT UP! LET ME TELL YOU RIGHT NOW… IF YOU DON’T GET ANNUJ & TANYA TO COME TO PHOTOGRAPH YOUR WEDDING, YOUR MARRIAGE WILL BE CURSED FOR LIFE AND I WILL NOT BE COMING TO THE WEDDING!” – a very sweet and unbelievably hilarious vote of confidence!

Hope you enjoy these shots!

Cretsen & Ingrid – Toronto Catholic Wedding

Hey guys,

Today we come to you with a very thought filled wedding with Cretsen and Ingrid. Their wedding was filled with dozens of completely personal touches – something we love to see. In our longest post to date – we lay out a few below.

Starting at the groom’s house, I (Tanya) arrived, prepared to shoot and asked Cretsen for some items so I can take some detail shots. He hands me his cuffs, a watch, Ingrid’s ring box, and another similarly shaped box wrapped in a Walmart and sealed shut with some scotch tape. Puzzled, in inspected the box and read the writing on the tape: “For Crispin’s Eyes Only. Not Cet’s.” (with Crispin being one of the best men amd Cet being Ingrid’s endearing pet name for Cretsen). I asked Cretsen what the dealio and he shared that Ingriddid not trust him to not read the inscription before the wedding and so she sealed it up in the last second before handing it over and he promised her that he would give the box as-is to Tanya when she came in the morning to shoot. Haha! He had a great set of groomsmen which helped for some happy moments in the morning. Some blessings from the fam and we were on our way to the church!

Over at the bride’s house, Annuj shares with me that Ingrid’s house was very calm. Ingrid, a high school teacher, was always very prepared. Throughout the wedding process she was always quick to respond and always on top of her share of the load. Her studiousness shined on the wedding day. Not liking the curtains in the room she was going to get dressed, she swapped them with her living room curtains in advance, thinking they would be nicer for the photos. And she was right! They permitted great light to come through which allowed Annuj to capture the soft photos you see below. She even had a backdrop beautifully arranged on the main floor for the blessings photos. Another cute fact: I’m sure you’ve heard of “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue”, but did you know there’s a last line that is usually left out when reciting the expression? “And a six pence in her shoe” almost always never makes the cut! But not for Ingrid – this girl does her research and gets it right. She did not forget to glue a six pence to the bottom of her shoe – thus assuring that she was officially a bride! 🙂

Back to thoughtful details everywhere we looked. Ingrid’s mother sadly passed away five years ago – but Ingrid made it a point to pay tribute in many ways to the mother she loved so dear that she truly was there with her on the big day. From wearing her mom’s wedding saree to her bridal shower, to prayer petitions at the mass, to a photo locket of her beautiful mom on her bouquet, to even including the Chunthy flower (the flower that her mom, Cynthia, was named for) in her bouquet, Ingrid showed true honour to her beloved mother (leaving me in tears at many different points of the day). It was such a beautiful way to remember a loved one.

They had a lovely ceremony in the beautiful St. Patrick’s Catholic church in Markham. This church has been listed as one of the 25 most beautiful churches in Canada to get married in. It is infamously renowned for its stained glass ceiling runner.

After the ceremony we headed over to Edwards Gardens for their bridal photo shoot. Yet another personal detail, this is where Cretsen proposed to Ingrid! We had an awesome shoot with their bridal party! At one point, there was an elderly couple sitting so adorably on a bench, just holding hands and talking. We asked them to take a photo and it is definitely one of our faves – demonstrating young love and old. Ingrid and Cretsen, when you guys become an old married couple, we hope that you will be like the one we met that day and head over to Edwards Gardens for walks while reminiscing about both your proposal and your wedding day!

We got to the reception venue and we saw their AWESOME bonbonnieres! You should know that our groom, Cretsen, is a fabulous hot sauce chef! They wanted to make sure that their wedding favours (along with everything else at the wedding, clearly) were a labour of love so they decided to have a homemade hot sauce bottle for each and every one of their guests. A few months back, Ingrid and Cretsen came over to our place to try and design the labels for the bottle. With Ingrid’s initial ideas, Annuj’s talent and attention to detail, my neverending criticisms, and Crestsen’s lovely dimples for inspiration, we ended up with a label we all loved! Annuj and I were so excited to see the end result and we loved it! And another bonus – the hot sauce is amazing too! Ingrid and Cretsen spent three full days making it, found bottles, printed the labels, AND figured out how to get them shelf ready so it didn’t spoil! Pineapple Habanero – it’s spicy with a tangy flavour. Cretsen, if you get famous for your hot sauce, don’t forget about us little guys!

Cretsen hails from a very musical family. His brothers all play instruments, his uncle orchestrated the choir at their wedding (consisting of more musical relatives and friends), and his mother is a piano teacher. In fact, his mother was INGRID’s piano teacher growing up. Keeping this in mind, thoughtful Ingrid made sure that we snapped a photo of her and her new mother-in-law at the piano. 🙂

Though I’m sure that I’m missing a good hundred more, the last thoughtful detail I’m going to mention is the daddy daughter song. Apparently when Ingridwas a little girl, her father would sing to her at night for her to fall asleep. And at her request/demand, it was the same song, every night, sung by her father, or she just wouldn’t go to sleep. The song played around them as he spun her on the dance floor that night and he sung to his baby girl, once again.

Their reception included loot bags for the kiddies, fireworks (that Ingrid almost caught herself on fire when she spun over them!), speeches, and lots of dancing! I don’t think I’ve written a longer blog post before about a wedding but there were just too many details to talk about. A wonderful and touching affair! We hope you enjoy these images!

Amanda & Adam – Toronto Catholic Wedding

Hey all,

We’re here today with Adam and Amanda’s wedding day. One thing that stood out for us was how there was no hustle and bustle, no rush rush rush. Everything happened at a great pace and everyone was calm. Everyone made it on time, the groom is handsome, the bride is beautiful, the priest was hilarious, and it was a lovely ceremony.

The down side was that it was raining. Hard. So we had to skip the beautiful outdoor location that they got a permit for and head over to Mississauga Convention Centre early for their bridal party photos. Which really wasn’t a problem – with the right eye almost everything can become a backdrop. 🙂

I (Tanya) was shooting with Adam in the morning and he is nothing but a gentleman. From constant “thank yous” and “pleases”, to asking me to sit down and have breakfast with him and his grandparents to even turning down the air conditioning in the hotel room before he came down for breakfast (because he “knew a ‘lady’ was going to be in the room soon and girls always seem to be cold”), he proved that what they say is true – a small town boy (from Penetanguishene, Ontario) knows how to treat a lady. And that was the consensus at the reception. Nothing but high praises from family, friends, and from Amanda herself for how lucky she was to find someone who always treats her right and knows exactly what to say. Adam’s speech showed the world that though Amanda is an independent, determined, successful young woman, she is also the perfect blend of city and town, who is not afraid to go on an adventure and get dirty. A match made in Heaven!

Nirojan & Mituna – Toronto Hindu Wedding

Hey guys!

We’re here today with Mituna and Nirojan’s wedding. Their wedding was filled with happiness, laughter and cheer – and pretty much went off without a hitch! A fantastic job was done by Shaminy at GlamBeauty for Mituna’s make up and hair. Shaminy was also there to change Mituna’s look for the second half of the wedding – the civil ceremony. Mituna was decked out in a beautiful and bright yellow saree with red and black embellishments. A lovely day with a great couple! Hope you enjoy these photos.

Be back soon!
